The Mission of the Metis Lodge is:
-
To
develop, maintain, promote, and preserve our rich multi-cultural
heritage;
- To preserve, enjoy, promote, and maintain Religious Freedom
for our Members, including traditional Religious Ceremonies;
- To encourage fraternal, educational, charitable and social
activities among our members and encourage Community Outreach;
- To preserve, enjoy, promote and maintain indigenous thinking
and traditional Metis values through education;
- To preserve our society and culture for future generations to
come,
- To inform and educate non-aboriginal people in the rich
history of the Metis people, our unique multi-cultural heritage, and
to address current issues,
- To promote the general welfare of Metis Lodge members by
exercising to the fullest extent the powers of self-government
vested in the Organization, and any additional powers of
self-government vested in the Metis Lodge by federal state, or local
law, now or in the future;
- To secure the powers, benefits, rights, and privileges as
provided by laws of the United States of America, or Canada, now or
hereafter enacted for the benefit of mixed blood Aboriginals, of the
United States and/or Canada;
- To conserve and develop Metis resources and to promote
the conservation and development of Metis Lodge property;
- Form a more representative organization;
- Ensure the political integrity and cultural
identity of Metis Lodge members.
It is simple, but it is not easy. It will take time and
dedication, working together for the good of the People.
We are organized under the Lodge System, we are regarded as One United
Association of People: a Nation.
Our National Council serves to offer guidance and support for our State
Councils and to move our Mission forward through the development of
programs and services with the specific goals and interests of our
People in mind. We are the coordinating branch of our self-government,
assisting, encouraging, problem-solving, and offering help to our
State Councils; and to assure compliance with the federal guidelines
required of us as an organization.
Our State Councils serve to coordinate efforts in their State, offering
guidance and support for their Bands, assisting, encouraging, and help
assure that every Band in their State comply with the federal guidelines
required of us as an organization.
As we grow and expand, our Bands will be the community-based People who come together to
learn, educate, share skills and knowledge, give charitable support, and
participate in programs.
Considering the increasing price of fuel and travel expenses and
the great distances that separate us, we can still keep up with our
Nation through our Member's Only area of our website, learn and explore
when there is time and interest. It's here 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week.
Our money is spent on: Membership services, Newsletters, our
National Website, funding programs and services for the benefit of our
Members, maintaining our National Office, and postage. It is by
establishing proof of being able to administer small amounts of funding
that we position ourselves to receive larger amounts to further our
Mission and goals.
If our Organization sounds like something that you would be interested
in, please consider becoming a Member. If you have additional questions,
please feel free to contact us.
